From October 2008 new planning regs came into force concerning the construction or re-surfacing of driveways in England.The regulations cover an area from the line at the front face of your property out to the highway threshold. Any impermeable paving over five square metres will require planning regs so they suggest you use shingle or permeable block paving to allow the water through. What they dont make very clear is that as long as you make provision for any surface water to drain naturally within the confines of the property
you dont need the planning regs. This can be achieved by digging a soakaway serving a drain or sloping the drive to a lawn or planted area large enough to disperse any such water.
