This fully licensed restaurant has been serving a wide selection of authentic Thai cuisine together with a reasonable price with a cozy and relaxing environment.
I found this place a joke! The food was expensive and bland in taste. It didn't resemble anything close to Thai food and the service was very questionable. The staff seemed to find us an annoyance to their day. I strongly recommend you seek an alternative restaurant if you fancy oriental cuisine.
Sara’s is an unexpected find. A decent restaurant in Portswood. Despite being right on the edge of Highfield, one of Southampton’s nicer areas, Portswood is widely considered a bit of a dive. Populated mainly by students and re-housed sex offenders (after my housemate was flashed on Gordon Avenue just down the road from here the policeman informed us of this) the businesses are mainly charity shops, take-aways, a couple of bookies, a pawn brokers… the usual stuff you associate with a run down area. Then there was Sara’s. A beacon of excellence amidst this deprivation. Sara’s is an experience from the start. Run by an old drunk and his younger Thai partner. Actually to say he’s a drunk doesn’t fit the bill. He’s a drunk of the absolute best kind. Not the aggressive rude sort, more the funny happy sort. He’s a good ol’ boy that likes to drink and the exchanges between him and his partner when he’s fooling around in his merry way are amusing to watch and part of the entertainment of eating there. But I wouldn’t recommend a restaurant for the entertainment alone! While he’s boozing it up his misses runs a tidy kitchen that produces food every bit as delicious as the food served up in Thailand and only a little bit more expensive. The green curry is exquisite and together with their sticky rice (served in cute little ‘pokemon’ baskets) makes one of the best meals you will find in Southampton. And unlike some restaurants you can talk to the staff there. I went with someone who doesn’t like spicy food so they made a mild red curry for her. I love my spicy food and found the green curry just right. As you’d expect in a Thai place they serve Singa which is an excellent Thai beer. When I went I had a bottle of Champaign with me and although its not usual policy they were happy to let me drink it for a small corkage fee. Call and check first if you were thinking of doing this however.Since Sara’s opened the area has been regenerated a bit. There are some new flats on the site of the practically derelict “Conservative Club” and a swanky new bar, Ceno’s has opened up round the corner (check out my Ceno’s review on this website if you’re loaded). One final point: Its open for lunch as well as in the evening but if you want to go at peak times you really should book first as it can get very busy. Especially if you wish to go in a group.
