  • 3 Nice food, but pricey for what you get

La Regata is a very nicely done up tapas bar/restaurant. I believe it is family owned and run rather than a chain restaurant. It's done up in Spanish decor, with a bar area and lots of tables, with tiling, plants etc.The food was very tasty, but portions for a lot of the dishes we tried were very small considering how much they cost. For example we tried dates stuffed with serano ham and cheese and then deep fried - very tasty, but it cost about £5 and there were only 4 dates! Also the pudding was a major let down. I ordered sticky toffee pudding (ok - not the most Spanish, but thats not the point), but what I got I am sure was a Heinz syrup spong from a tin with custard. Definitely not home made, and in fact not even sticky toffee pudding!! The desserts from the specials board looked to be better value.Service was ok, not great, but nothing to complain about. One other thing that I found irritating was the TV which was on in the corner showing football - it was right behind our table, and I found it a bit disconcerting when people at the bar, and also the staff would be watching the TV directly behind us!overall...good food, but the portions were VERY small for the price, and also watch out in your dessert portions. I might try it again, but I'll try and make better menu choices.
