Greens Wine Bar is a small establishment serving food and a selection of wines, beers and spirits.
I don't know about the last review but it is nothing like that! I live in Winchester so visit Greens every now and then, especially on the weekend, either for a drink or a bite to eat. The canteen style service is excellent, think more great home cooking rather than school dinners. Everything is prepared in house as far as I could tell, certainly no straight out the freezer and into the microwave here. The place also changes loads come nine O'clock. By then the food has finished and the place is definitely just bar. They have DJs on at the weekend playing indie and old stuff so for a small place it gets very full and has the best atmosphere, everyone is friendly and the staff have always been nice too . Greens isn't posh but it doesnt pretend to be either, good food, good music at night and a good environment....take my word for it!
We popped in here for a quick lunch. I nearly turned around and walked out when I saw an awful looking hot cabinet with food being kept warm (school dinner style roast potatoes, burnt cauliflower cheese). As we had a hungry child we opted to try anyway - they had a panini menu and my wife said, 'they can't ruin a panini'. Well, they can. They were disgusting: salami and mozzarella - revolting thick chunks of salami that looked like spam; ham and cheddar with hacked chunks of ham (1cm thick) 1/3 fat. Very lazy, and they must rely on their drinks trade to survive as no one would go back a second time to eat here.
