29 Oxford Street,
great greek resturant, althou a little pricey, it really does feel like your in greece, from the smell of fresh olives to oven baked bread.Truly a place you need to try atleast once if not more.
The food is okay but the real prices are 50% higher than their published prices. Then they will add 10% extra for themselves so you may work out how much you are really paying.
This is my favourite restaurant. The food is fab and contrary to some reviews their Chef is one of the best in Southampton. They are always happy to put themselves out for a fussy eater with several food intolerances, like myself. The staff are both friendly and professional. The meals are a fair price for a great location, great food and a great atmosphere. FYI The main meals are served with either vegetables or a potato dish and are generously sized. Sunday Evening is my favourite time to go, they have a really good house Jazz band who play there every week. Be warned though, they do get very busy in the summer, especially when the boat show is on, obviously waiting time is a bit longer but it's well worth the wait!
I went to The Olive Tree in a group of about 8 and we were not offered drinks until the whole group arrived, which took about 20 minutes. When we ordered drinks they didnt have any lemonade and this was at about 7pm on a Saturday. This is odd as there is a Tesco store just round the corner which they could have bought a few bottles from until they had a restock. The main meals don't come with vegetables, you have to pay extra for those! I would not go back to this restaurant as the food was OK but pricey for what it was and the service very poor.
Lets face it, the Olive Tree is not a Michelin-starred restaurant and has no pretensions to be one. it does however have (a) a good atmosphere and (b) pretty good food at a reasonable price. I have been to this restaurant on two occasions and have had a great time on both. I think that the restaurant prepares some of the dishes better than others. On my last visit I was amongst a part of 12 and the opinions varied from 'fair' to 'excellent'. I think that the reviewer that awarded only half a star must have hit an abberation. To summarize; a good middle-of-the road restaurant offering food at a fair price.
We had a delicious meal in the Olive Tree. Between us we had an excellent goats cheese and beetroot starter, and a very tasty crispy duck starter. For mains the marinated chicken in my chicken salad was absolutely delicious - a real treat as chicken can be a bit bland at times. The fish dish was fresh and well cooked. The maple and pecan cheesecake was to die for. Despite the restaurant being busy we didn't wait long for food and we were pleasantly surprised with the bill! Highly recommended and I wish we lived closer to Southampton so we could go back!
I've been to the Olive Tree a couple of times and the food is fantastic. Really well cooked and the service is spot on. You can really feel the enthusiasm of the people working there.
About 7 items not available at 6.30pm. Basket of bread(4 bits) and olives(8)£5 ??. Luke warm soup, cold main courses. Slow(25 mins between course) and surly staff. It has to be one of the worst places that we have eaten in the UK. We eat out at least twice a week
Heard good things about this place before so we paid a visit. I don't often go out to restaurants as I often feel I could have done it better myself, but the food here was excellent. Every course for both of us was lovely. Definately go again.
This has to be one of the best restaurants I've visited in a long time and admittedly I do frequent a few! Eric's mashed potatoes are a legend in the own right and when combined with the most succulent and flavoursome lamb shank provides a dish second to none. If you're in Southampton it would be a gastronomocal crime to miss out!
